Intentions: Hero
(Blackmane: Villian)
Background
Name: Abele “Sundance” del Sol / Blackmane
Race: Beastfolk
Species: White Lion / Black Lion
Age: 132
Tier: 3
Social
Place of Birth: Alexandria, Sunset Ridge Mountains, Tetra Plateau
Allegiances: The Church of the Sun
Aspirations: To allow the world to see the beauty in the sun and to allow it to purify them.
Nicknames: Sundance, Sunny
Titles: Sacerdote del Sole
Relatives: None
Significant Other: Deceased
Mental
Personality: Only one word can be used to describe this lion, and that word is calm. The only emotion that people have seen from him involves a gentle smile and a kind touch. He is always lending a hand when he can and offering advice when needed, making much of his time spent outside of the church. Those who come to him say that they feel uplifted, and as if the sun were now truly shining on them.
Likes: Fruit of any kind, children, the suns light
Dislikes: darkness, tofu, beans, tentacles
Strengths: He is known for being there to listen or to offer help when asked. Children especially have taken a liking to him, and in the afternoons when classes are over they can be seen tailing him. It doesn’t bother him, rather, he likes the attention that the children give him, and can always be seen watching over them and playing with them.
Weaknesses: He dislikes being awake at night. While he does know that the moons light is a reflection of the sun, he is quite uncomfortable at nighttime and is almost always asleep by sunset and wakes up with the dawn. He is also not good at being in rooms that lack the light of the sun or is completely dark, anxiety slowly building up within him.
Physical
Major Details: He has pure white fur; scars that adorn his arm, chest and face; eyes of a bright orange color, a large medallion on his chest bearing the image of the sun and several beads and jewels set into his mane.
Appearance: A rather imposing figure standing at 6 foot 2 inches, and weighing at 280 pounds of mostly muscle, most would be inclined to stay away from him until looking at his face. His face has obviously begun to see the ravages of time, with lines giving his cheeks an almost sunken look, yet his eyes are as bright as ever, never having once lost their light. Several strands of his mane have beads and jewels braided into them, gifts from people that he’s helped or small gifts from the children, each one having the mark of the sun carved into them. His body had also begin to feel the test of time, with his joints beginning to moan and complain, yet once again his body stopped, the process slowing down his body. He wears only a white cloak and loincloth, as per tenants of his religion as a priest. The loincloth and cloak have been adorned with gold plating on the shoulders and sides as a mark of his ranking in the order. As Darkmane he is much the same, with the exception that his fur his pitch black and his eyes turn a shade of blood red.
Natural Abilities: Anything involving strength or endurance, mainly in the form of hard work.
Natural Traits: Claws, Mane, tail, and fur.
Strengths: Hard work, fighting.
Weaknesses: Anything involving speed or great flexibility. Since he has gotten older he has long since lost some of his range of motion. He also can’t perform certain actions for long periods of time, mainly anything involving standing due to his weak knee joints.
Magical
Specializations: Beneath here, list what Specializations your character has taken at each successive tier.
- Tier 1: Hymn of Night and Day - Spoken (Broad[Chant]), Proficiency 3 – As Sundance he removes afflictions placed upon another, removing minor ones unless he specifically focuses on a person, in which case he is able to remove greater afflictions. These afflictions are then "stored" within him until he changes to Blackmane. As Blackmane, he expels these afflictions, casting them upon those who hear his chant. If the amount of afflictions runs out he can no longer expel anymore. Cannot affect people who are deaf or have something blocking sound based affects, magical or otherwise and also cannot use the chant on himself.
- Tier 2: Exchange of Light and Dark – Physical (Broad[Hands]), Proficiency 3 – While Sundance/Blackmane is in the light of the sun, he is invigorated and is able to apply this others through direct touch. When he is out of the light the same touch drains instead of invigorates, sapping the victim of their stamina. Does not restore magical power or take from it.
- Tier 3: Lance of Sun and Shadows – Mental (Broad[Light][Shadow]), Proficiency 3 – If there is a source of light around, Sundance/Blackmane is able to warp the light to "solidify" it and use it as he sees fit. Where there is no light, as in absolute darkness, they are able to manipulate the darkness in the same manner as light. If the manipulated source extends past 15 feet of Sundance/Blackmane, then the object dissipates back to its original material. If there is a light and its out of range, then Sundance/Blackmane can't manipulate darkness.

History
Sundance had been living in the Church of the Sun for as long he could remember. He wasn’t born there, his parents had dropped him off, giving the Church members his name and age, but otherwise saying nothing before running off. The church members did not hide that fact from him, one of their tenants stating “Like the light, we must reveal everything, for we don’t hide within the shadows.” His entirety of his life was spent knowing that his parents had abandoned him, living amongst the church in relative peace. Yet that did not affect him, rather knowing that the sun was always there for him to be his guiding light in times of need. As he grew up, he became more and more devoted to the church, eventually applying for priesthood. That was when his magic first made his appearance.
As a test for those who wish to become a priest, the acolyte must be able to give the sermon in a manner much like the suns light, inspiring those who listen and giving them heart. As they were singing the traditional hymns, Sundances mane, though not much of a mane at that time, being only 16, began to give off a faint glow. Those who were participating in the sermon began to sigh gently, as if their pain was being uplifted from them, some of the older members commenting on how their joints had not felt better in years. The audience wasn’t the only one who felt the effects of Sundances chant. Sundance himself began to pick up the feelings, sensing the happiness and relief of those that had listened to his sermon. His conviction only grew then, his desire to become a priest exploded, and he asked the council to speed up the test. The council knew what had happened to Sundance, despite Sundance himself not knowing that he himself had developed magic. The council assumed that they would use his tenure as a priest to help train him in his magic, despite his young age. They instantly made him a priest, stating that what had happened during the service the will of the sun and that the young lion should be the priest.
He didn’t realize his own abilities until he began to solidify light, long since having the power to invigorate others and perfecting his healing ability. He was at the age of 56, his mane having grown out and his body bulking up tremendously, helping out a couple rebuild their house after it was burned down. They had gotten all the supports set up and had finished constructing the first floor of the house, and were preparing to start building the second floor of the next day. They were leaving to celebrate when one of the supports in the house began to collapse, tumbling down onto another of the workers. The worker opened his eyes to see that he had been unharmed, looking up to see a disc of light hovering above him and debris all around him. Sundance had been reaching out, realizing that he would be unable to reach the man in time as he had watched the beams fall. Everyone around him praised it as a miracle of the sun, but he had seen quite a few magic users, and knew exactly what had happened. He realized that the priests had lied to him, telling him that these were miracles of the sun. If they were truly miracles he could do so much more with them, that he wouldn’t be limited in the sense that he was. Despite knowing that these weren’t miracles, he knew that they came from his faith, and that despite the lie that he would forgive his superiors.
His life for the next 10 years was spent in peace, achieving the title of Sacerdote del Sole, one of the highest titles for a priest within the church. But he also became a protector of the people, those who came into his church were guaranteed protection, with Sundance himself fending off any who chased after those who were under his roof. He rejected those who came in within evil intentions, knowing almost all who had entered and even those who were not a part of his church. His position and power gave him increased fame, to the point where a certain large group of people kidnapped him. They were those he rejected for having evil intentions, or those who simply loved the dark. They came in the dark of night, stealing him away from his church and locking him away deep underground. That mistake gave birth to Blackmane.
No person is completely pure, it is the nature of people. Sundances impurities take form in Blackmane. While a part of the church, Sundance became dependent on the light of the sun for his mental stability, though most wouldn’t realize it. Going without an extended period of time without the light of the sun, whether from the sun itself or from the moon brings out his dark side. His fur gradually growing black as if absorbing the darkness around him and his eyes turn a blood red color. He eventually found his way back to the light, appearing in the middle of town his eyes hungering for blood until the light of the moon shone onto his forehead. The black began to fade away, returning the white to his fur and his eyes turning to their fiery orange. But there was no hiding the blood that had soaked into his fur and clothing, or the head of one of his assailants that fell out of his hand.
When he woke up he was back in his temple, lying in the same room he always had. The blood had been cleaned from him, but there was no way to get it out of his memories. He remembered every dark thing he did, everything that screamed against who he was. He remembered how his magic had changed, praises of the sun turning to praises of the dark, sucking the life from those who heard him. His touch drained his enemies, setting them up for slaughter. His light became darkness, skewering those who went against him. He knew he would never be the same, knowing that he is longer as pure as he thought he was, and in his frustration he let loose a roar.
The roar attracted attention, bringing up several of other priests. He announced then that he would not lead service until he had atoned for his sins. He spent several years alone, repenting, until it occurred to him that he had not shown signs of further aging. He realized he would be living a long life, and that rather than repenting, he must shoulder his sins and like the sun, shine brightly. He returned to his church, welcomed back as pastor. After many years, he was asked to become the high priest when the current one had moved on, to lead the church in bright brilliance. Sundance declined, saying that he would be better preaching to those who not of the sun. The church had expanded and grown, in the time that he was gone, and expanded further and faster with Sundance inspiring his followers once more.
When the Were War came, Sundance, who was known to be a great healer, was asked to join the Dragon Knights during the war. Sundance respectfully declined, saying that he would not aid in violence of any kind, but to send those who are injured to him if they require healing. Once the Were War was finished, Sundance and many others were sent out to provide healing and faith to those who accepted it. Sundance did not wish to leave the church he had spent so much of his life in, but those who were within the church assured him that they would continue to inspire those who came to this church, even without him. With great reluctance Sundance set off, becoming the guiding light to those who accepted him.
