Background
Name: Aidan Wildlough
Race: Mythical Beastfolk
Species: Manticore
Age: 7
Tier: 2
Social
Place of Birth: Caledonia
Allegiances: His family
Aspirations: To fly using his own wings
Nicknames: Manticotter
Titles: None
Relatives: Karren and Torrance Wildlough
Significant Other: Girls are icky
Mental
Personality: Aidan feels awkward - as a Beastfolk, as a boy, as a mage - and all that awkwardness makes him more self-conscious than such a young kid should be. He tries very hard to be good at all the above, and takes each inevitable failure hard. Nervousness is compounded by a plethora of childhood fears, more than a few of which are actually justified by real threats. Caledonia isn't exactly the safest place to grow up, so Aidan latches on to the grown ups themselves. He's the kid at the back of the group sniffling and saying he doesn't think the bridge is safe.
Likes: presents, sunny days, drawing, protective wards, night lights, his family, knights in shining armor, dinosaurs (the cuddly, odd colored ones), cowboys, sports, video games
Dislikes: large bodies of water, monsters, monsters under the bed, hunting, gardening, pollen, sneezing, facing his weaknesses
Strengths: Aidan is more mellow and mature than another child his age. He's not very excitable, and better at focusing when he needs to.
Weaknesses: The fact that he is still a kid should say something. Compared to anyone even a few years older, he's not very smart, not very wise, not very clever, and he gets scared very easily. He relies heavily on other people to take care of him.
Physical
Major Details: red eyes, light brown fur, dark brown head fur, bat wings, scorpion tail
Appearance: Despite how threatening his features should make him look, at 3'8" tall, Aidan still looks more like a little kid than anything. His head is round, his eyes are big and wide, and he still has some of his baby teeth. His lower right canine juts out above his upper lip. The left would too, but his baby tooth fell out and hasn't grown back in yet. He has a fuzzy, uncombed mop of dark brown hair on his head, that should one day grown into a mane. His hands and feet are disproportionately large for his age, but his wings are still a bit too weak and small. His thick, chitinous stubby tail ends in a sharp, curved point. Between these and his other manticore features, his body ends up looking more like an ill-fitting costume than a real body.
Natural Abilities: Aidan has the average physical abilities of a Beastfolk child his age, though he's had a bit more time to run around than some because of his life in Caledonia.
Natural Traits: As a Manticore Beastfolk, Aidan has several features of that creature. He has bat-like wings on his back, and while he should be able to fly eventually, they're still too small and weak for that. He also has a fully opposable scorpion-like tail that extends downward from his spine at midback. All of his fingers and toes end in sharp claws, and his front teeth are more like fangs.
Strengths: Aidan's tail is surprisingly dextrous, but besides that, he doesn't really have any natural physical strengths. His special abilities do make him surprisingly durable though, and so it's actually pretty hard for him to get hurt in his everyday life.
Weaknesses: As a child at less than four feet, Aidan's abilities are limited all-around. He's nowhere near as strong or as fast as even a teenager, much less a real adult. He still struggles with a ten or twenty pound bag. His claws may be sharp, but he doesn't actually have the strength to use them for anything more than scratching at a bad guy.
Magical
Specializations:
- Tier 1: Mental (Shadow), Proficiency 2.5.
- Tier 2: Written (Runes), Proficiency 2.5.
Special Abilities: Enhanced Toughness, Chimerical Shape (Tail Length), Familiar (Partial, Angel: "Debbie")
Bonus Special Abilities: Immune to Poison, Immune to Heat, Empathy
Unique Abilities: As a Manticore Beastfolk, Aidan's tail produces a powerful acid that can burn through stone and some metals, given enough time.
Strengths: Aidan is a natural mage, and whether it's related to being a Mythical Beastfolk or not, his magical ability is growing extremely fast for his age. While he rarely uses his Shadow magic on purpose, he has used it to instinctively help or protect himself outright.
Weaknesses: Despite being a natural mage at Tier 2 already, Aidan still has very little control of his powers. His minor grasp of language - much less runic language - makes it hard for him to come up with Written spells, but he can do it if someone helps him form the shapes.

Mundane:
Magical:
Debbie Bear - Written/Material (Activated). A gray furred teddy bear about a foot large, with silvery runes embroidered onto its arms with unicorn hair thread. The runes on its right arm wreathes it in a sword of light when activated. The runes on its left forms a circular shield of light when activated.
Home Run Bat - Written (Perpetual). A wooden bat about two feet long, with runes written on one side. The length of the bat is protected by a repelling energy field. When swung, the field extends and gets bigger, smashing or deflecting things with vastly greater force than the wielder puts into it. This field effects on both magical and mundane things.
History
Mythical Beastfolk are rare. Rare things are unique. Uniqueness makes one stand out. As a Manticore Beastfolk, Aidan stands out … far more than he wishes he did. Raised by his parents along with his several siblings, his mother homeschools them and his father takes them hunting - or, he did anyway.
When Aidan was five, Torrance had taken them out fishing. It was a nice enough day. They had their rods lined up. The sun was bright, but not too warm. The river was peaceful and calm, even when the hag had grabbed the child mage and pulled him down into the water to eat.
Aidan's memories of the event are sketchy at best. He remembers drowning. Oh dear God, does he remember drowning. Even now, he's terrified of any body of water deeper than his ankles. He also remembers the light showing up in the water. He doesn't remember the angel who was giving it off, or when his dad joined in the fight to save him either.
He does remember his father carrying him home, and he remembers wrapping up with a blanket and a teddy bear and crying on and off for a few hours while Karren gave his room more protective wards, "just in case." It wasn't till later that he realized his teddy bear was hugging back.
The angel that had saved him followed him home. She knew he was different, and though different attracts bad people, she wanted to make it clear being different didn't make him bad. She liked him. She wanted to keep him safe, but angels tend to stand out to dark forces. She bonded with his teddy bear to keep close and stay secret.
Now he has his own personal guardian angel watching him as he sleeps - and that is a very comforting sort of thought. With all the monsters that go bump in Caledonia, an angel is a good friend to have...
